My Canadian model railway c 1964

Modelling Canadian Railways

I started modelling as a teenager and during the 1960s was a member of the South Bank Short Lines, a small club that rotated meetings around member's homes. We all modelled Western Canadian railways, albeit freelance, with an emphasis on logging railways.

Thorsby Feed Mill
  • Alberta Coal Branch: a Canadian National Railways resource branch west of Edmonton, Alberta. Documenting this railway was a major personal project c1970.
  • Alberta grain elevators: The original of this James Marshall print was 15" x 20" and would be a collector's item.
  • Bank buildings from the 1975 Toronto Dominion Bank calendar, historic (and very modelable).
  • Coal in Drumheller, Alberta: article by Les Kozma.
  • Construction standards for private sidings, 1974: BC Rail (formerly Pacific Great Eastern) (pdf file, divided into 12 A4 pages from large blueprint).
  • The Crow and the Kettle - Canadian Pacific's unremarked crossing of the Continental Divide, Trains magazine, May 1968.
  • Feed Mill at Thorsby, Alberta (Lynn Zelmer photos and Scott Calvert plans, 492 Kb pdf file). Feed mill photos: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
